To the parents raising a lonely teen

In this issue:

Hi Reader

Anyone else shocked that it's April?! A few fun things of note:

  • Check out our five reasons why you should take your teens to see Project Hail Mary list we posted on our Instagram or Facebook. If you can get them to read the book, even better. We loved the Audible version, as the narration is great!
  • Our house has been obsessed with the Artemis 2 mission (who remembers where you were when the Challenger tragedy occurred?!) You can watch the landing tonight on Netflix, YouTube (Nasa channel) and other streaming services at 6:30 p.m. ET.
  • Graduation season is almost here. We love giving books as graduation gifts and putting a check inside for them. Here's some of our favorites. Graduation Gifts: 20 Of The Best Ever Books To Give High School Graduates

Watching My Lonely Teen Navigate High School Breaks My Heart

But as a parent, you see the little things, like how your child always walks out of school alone. Or how they seem excited about going to the school play or a football game or a dance, but have to ask around to find someone to go with them, and often receive a lot of no’s because they have made other arrangements. And when it comes to making plans on the weekend or catching a ride to an event, he’s rarely included.

How Can Parents Better Connect with Teen Sons

We asked Dr. Eran Magen, a father, assistant clinical professor at the Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, and the founder of ParentingForHumans and DivorcingDads.org, a few questions to help parents cultivate a strong relationship with their sons.

What Every Parent Should Know about Adolescent OCD

In popular media, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is often portrayed as a set of quirks or odd fixations that may cause inconvenience or prompt eye-rolling reactions from others. In real life, OCD is a painful condition that can wreak havoc on individuals and families. When it occurs in the teen years, it can be even more challenging.

Dorm Room Planning? This can help!

Our daughter's outlet was planted in a hard-to-reach area behind her bed. We didn't want something hanging down the wall as that didn't seem safe, so this extender was perfect! The most useful feature is the flexible, gooseneck-like arm that lets you bend the outlet away from the wall. This allowed her to easily plug in her lamp and her laptop charger close to her bed as opposed to runing a cord from the other side of the room. The fact that it has a USB charger too is a major bonus!

A great reminder for the parents of teen girls. They don't need to compete at the top level to gain benefits. It can be any sort of team environment from marching band to recreational sports.
